Animal Round-up Wall Station
Help give kids strength and endurance with our animal round-up poster! Performing different animal walks allow children to gain muscular strength and endurance while having fun. Each animal walk strengthens a different muscle group and allows for movements in different directions, different levels, and eventually different heights.
Developing gross motor skills is an essential part of childhood! Motor activities not only get the kids moving and having fun as well as release energy, but they also are responsible for supporting sensory regulation. Animal walks are fun can be done anywhere at any time so they are easy ways to include proprioceptive and vestibular input within the child’s regular daytime activities.
The balance beam enables kids to be challenged while improving balance and coordination. Kids improve vestibular balance, movement coordination, and concentration while understanding their body's center of gravity. The balance beam also helps to improve self-confidence, learning stability and sense of reaction. Each unit is equipped with the ability to add another beam on each end, thus allowing facility operators to make the beam as long as they need.
The balance rope is 6 foot long. The 2" round polypropylene rope provides a more challenging walking surface than a traditional flat beam, increasing the balance difficulty for all ages.
Why are gross motor skills important?
Gross motor skills are important to enable children to perform everyday functions, such as walking, running, skipping, as well as playground skills (e.g. climbing) and sporting skills (e.g. catching, throwing and hitting a ball with a bat). These are crucial for everyday self-care skills like dressing (where you need to be able to stand on one leg to put your leg into a pant leg without falling over).
Gross motor abilities also have an influence on other everyday functions. For example, a child's ability to maintain table top posture (upper body support) will affect their ability to participate in fine motor skills (e.g. writing, drawing, and cutting) and sitting upright to attend to class instruction, which then impacts on their academic learning. Gross motor skills impact on your endurance to cope with a full day of school (sitting upright at a desk, moving between classrooms, carrying your heavy school bag).
Flexible and versatile 2" diameter 6" circumference textured poly rope.
Length 6 ft.
Barrel Jump (set of 2)
This obstacle is used in the ABL Learning Lab to cross the midline. Crossing the midline coordinates both sides of the body and is an important developmental skill needed for many everyday tasks such as writing, and reading.

Brainworks Wall Station
The ABL Brainworks Wall Chart is a visual source of how our magnificent brain works. Our recommendation is that the chart is used as a resource for age-appropriate learning about the parts and functions of our brain. Children are very capable of understanding at a young age that our brain and body are connected and must be educated together. Our brain needs to develop as we grow, as does our body!

Balance balls might be just what the doctor ordered to help children reach their full potential in the classroom, especially for those with sensory processing disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or just a strong need to fidget! In 2003, a study was published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy concluded that in students with ADHD, sitting on therapy balls improved behavior and legible word productivity.
